This is an exceptional military chronograph, equipped with the robust Lemania 5100 automatic movement. Designed by the Swiss company Orfina SA and distributed by Porsche Design, this watch was adopted from 1979 onwards as the official service watch of the German army, intended for pilots, NATO units and various military corps.
The model's roots lie in the famous Porsche Design Chronograph I launched in 1972, a true commercial success with over 50,000 units sold to motorsport and Porsche enthusiasts. The version presented here, on the other hand, is much rarer, as it was delivered exclusively to the German army. This specificity is reflected on the caseback, which is marked with supply number 6645-12-182-1763, the military identification code assigned to official equipment (watches, weapons, lamps, miscellaneous equipment), combined with the "Bund" engraving.
The black dial bears the wording "Military", accompanied by the red logo at 3 o'clock, the day window in German and the date, all completed by an inner ring for reading the hours. The red-orange hands, characteristic of the Bundeswehr version, ensure optimum legibility, while the central chronograph hand, whose tip evokes the silhouette of an aircraft, reinforces its aeronautical identity.
The satin-finish steel case, with its matte black treatment, eliminates any unwanted reflections and contributes to the military vocation of this timepiece. This timepiece is in near-new condition and comes with its original black leather strap, stamped with the words "Bund" on the inside.
